Jan. 7, 2021, Myanmar: Kirin has today announced the conclusion of Deloitte’s assessment into the destination of profits from their joint venture with military conglomerate Myanma Economic Holdings Limited (MEHL). According to their press release, the findings were “inconclusive”. Justice For Myanmar calls on Kirin to make the assessment public and cut ties with MEHL.

Justice For Myanmar spokesperson Yadanar Maung says: “Kirin must be transparent and make the Deloitte assessment public. It has been more than one year since Kirin announced a re-assessment of their relationships with military business in Myanmar. Evidence that proceeds of their business support and enrich the Myanmar military, led by war criminals, is overwhelming. As long as Kirin continues to do business with MEHL, they are complicit in ongoing war crimes and crimes against humanity against ethnic communities in our country. Further delay is unacceptable. It is time for Kirin to stop making excuses and divest.”

Note to editors

Justice For Myanmar, a group of covert activists campaigning for justice and accountability for the people of Myanmar, is calling for an end to military business and for federal democracy and a sustainable peace.
